It is now two years since the completion of the second phase of the Tranvia tram system in Vélez-Málaga, a 1,200 metre extension to the service, yet it remains unused and the tracks apparently showing signs of deterioration.
Travelsa propose increase in technical rate for Vélez-Málaga tram
The company Tranvía Vélez (Travelsa), concessionaires of the much-troubled tram system operating between Torre del Mar and Vélez-Málaga, has proposed increasing the technical rate from €1.68 to €2.25.

The socialist Mayor of Vélez-Málaga, Salomé Arroyo, has made a commitment to maintain three-way talks in an attempt to try and reduce the technical rate of the much-troubled Tranvia tram system in the town and to pave the way for the second section of the tram to be made operational after two years of delays.

The second stretch of the Tranvia tram line in Vélez-Málaga, a 1,200 metre section from the Parque Jurado Lorca to the old railway station, is still not operating despite being completed in February 2008 at a cost of over €8 million.
