Forty set to go to trial in part one of the Gürtel case

After nearly six years of investigations, forty people are due to stand trial in part one of the so-called Gürtel corruption case, a scandal relating to a kickbacks-for-contracts scheme including, amongst others, a former PP Party Treasurer and an ex-Minister.

Garzon barred from office for 11 years

The Supreme Court has found judge Baltasar Garzon guilty of authorising illegal recordings of lawyers’ conversations and he has been banned from the legal profession for 11 years with no appeal possible against the ruling.

Ronda police officers go on trial

The trial is scheduled to start today of nine people from Ronda, five of them police officers, on charges of bribery, corruption, failure to prosecute crimes and fraud.
