The mayor of Vélez-Málaga, Delgado Bonilla, is now warning of the ‘ruination’ of the tram system in Andalucia if the regional government does not come up with a ‘solution’ for their maintenance and viability.

Work on Escuela Infantil La Fortaleza to start on Monday

Work to expand and adapt the Escuela Infantil La Fortaleza in calle Huerta Carrión, Vélez-Málaga, is due to start on Monday according to the Mayor, Francisco Delgado. The contract, worth €149,270, has been awarded to Construcciones Torre Axarquía and the completion period is three months.  

Punto Limpio project in Vélez-Málaga

The proposed ‘punto limpio’ – waste collection/recycling centre – on La Pañoleta industrial estate will occupy an area of 5,000 square metres, cost €248,000 and, according to the Council, should be finished by the end of the year.

Trams could be sold at the end of the year

Vélez-Málaga Council has announced that it will beep the three tram units, originally costing €2.6 million each, until the end of the year in case the Junta de Andalucia changes its mind about subsidising the system.

End of the tram service

The Velez-Malaga tram, the first of its kind in Andalucia, made its last journey on Sunday evening and the service is now suspended until further notice.

Preparations for suspension of tram service on June 4th

Vélez-Málaga Council and the transport company Alsa are finalising the expansion of the bus service in the town in preparation for the suspension of the tram service on June 4th. The plan is to introduce an extra three buses between Vélez and Torre del Mar and one between Caleta and Almayate.

Self-defence course for women

Vélez-Málaga Council, with the help of European funds, has set up a free course in self-defence and self-esteem for women in the La Villa, Arroyo de San Sebastián and La Molineta districts. The course will take place from June 11th to 15th from 17:00 to 20:30 in calle San Francisco.

Bicycle rental service to resume in Velez-Málaga

The bicycle rental service, introduced in April 2011 but then abandoned three months later due to the failure to make provision for repairs and damage, is due to start again in the summer.
