The Council is finalising the paperwork to hand over, free of charge, a plot of land to the Provincial Housing Association (Emprovima) for the building of 11 VPO (subsidised) houses. The 694.78 square metre plot is in the Campillo de Vidrio area next to the cemetery.
Delay to VPO project
A planned project to build, amongst other things, 12 VPO (subsidised) houses in the area known as UE22 (behind the sports stadium) will be delayed for a couple of months following a court decision.
Torrox VPO project
One company has expressed interest in acquiring an 18,000 square metre plot of land in the Barranco de El Puerto area of Torrox for the construction of 150 VPO (subsidised) homes. A decision on whether to proceed will be taken some time in April. A previous attempt to sell the plot last year ended in failure.
Frigiliana LOUA amendment to allow the construction of VPO housing
The Junta de Andalucia has given the green light to a partial amendment to the LOUA (Urban Planning Act) through the Rules of Subsidiary Planning for Frigiliana which will allow land to be made available for the building of 49 VPO (subsidised) houses. The Council expects to approve the amendment in April.
VPO contract awarded
The contract to construct 12 VPO (subsided) homes in Las Gaviotas has been awarded to Estructuras y Vías del Sur S. L., the same company who built the 13 VPO houses in La Noria.

Torrox suspends VPO project
Torrox Council has suspended the proposed sale of plots of land in Barranco de El Puerto for the construction of 152 VPO (subsidised) houses. The suspension is due to the discovery of irregularities in the tendering process.
New draw for the VPO houses in La Noria
The draw was recently made for the 13 Viviendas de Protección Oficial (subsidised housing) in urbanisation La Noria. However, the economic crisis is still taking its toll and the draw will have to be made again.

Five of the ‘winners’ of the VPO (subsidised) houses being built in La Noria have had to withdraw from the list after failing to obtain credit for the purchase of the homes.
236 applications for 12 VPO houses
A total of 236 people have put their names forward for the latest batch of 12 VPO, subsidised, houses to be built in Nerja. The period for applications opened on December 9th 2008 and the closing date was Monday January 19th.
