Doñana National Park was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1994, but there is a possibility that this status could be withdrawn, being replaced by one of ‘area at risk’.
Council rejects motion to request World Heritage Site status for the Nerja Caves
The ruling PP rejected a motion by the Opposition PSOE asking the Council to request that the Nerja Caves be declared a World Heritage Site. The spokesman for the PP, José Miguel García, stated that this first has to be approved at a plenary session of the Nerja Caves Foundation before any such action can be taken.
